Ashokan spends his days in a Kerala village in a running battle of pranks with his cousin Appukuttan. Sent to Nepal, he finds himself drawn into the fate of a young boy believed to be a reincarnated lama, whom an evil sorcerer and his men plan to sacrifice to gain power. Blinded in an attack, Ashokan must learn to fight without sight to save the child. Yodha mixes broad comedy with martial-arts action and fantasy, and its Nepal locations give it a look unlike any other Malayalam film of its time. It was the first Malayalam film scored by A. R. Rahman, whose songs, including "Padakaali", became classics, and Santosh Sivan's camerawork, Mohanlal's performance and the comic rivalry with Jagathy Sreekumar have made it a cult favourite.
