Zindagi (1976)

Zindagi ("Life") is a family drama about a devoted middle-class couple who have given everything to their children. When the father retires and the couple must lean on their sons, the family that they built begins to show its cracks: the children have their own lives and spouses, and the parents find themselves treated as a burden, even separated from each other. Sanjeev Kumar, still in his thirties, plays the ageing father with the restraint and warmth that made him one of the most respected actors of the 1970s, with Mala Sinha as his wife and Vinod Mehra among the younger generation. The film's theme of parents neglected by their children was revisited in many later Hindi family dramas.
