Anil Biswas
Composer; brought the orchestra into Hindi film (1914-2003)
Anil Biswas scored this film and sings three of its twelve songs himself, which was not unusual for him: he acted and sang before he only composed. He is generally credited with bringing the full orchestra into Hindi film music and with the early use of the twelve-piece and then larger ensembles, and with giving the chorus something to do beyond repeating the refrain. Later work includes Tarana, Aaraam and Waaris. He married the playback singer Meena Kapoor - sources give 1957 or 1959 - after an earlier marriage to Ashalata ended in divorce in 1954, and he spent his last years in Delhi, where he died in 2003.
