Description

Bharti, a wealthy law student, is in love with her classmate Vijay. Another student tells her that her father Ashok made his fortune from smuggling and from trafficking children and women, and her father denies it. On a trip to Goa she sees him with her own eyes smuggling children aboard a yacht, when he was supposed to be in London. She and Vijay discover documents that could let a foreign power take over India, and resolve to expose him. Then tragedy strikes and Bharti's world falls apart. The cast is Rekha, Rajesh Khanna, Prem Chopra, Jackie Shroff, Rishi Kapoor and Pran, with Rakesh Bedi and Tiku Talsania. S. A. Chandrasekhar directed his own Hindi remake of his Tamil hit Sudhanthira Naattin Adimaigal (1988), from a story by his wife Shoba, and the same cinematographer, Intoo Chakravarty, shot both versions. Laxmikant-Pyarelal composed the songs to Sameer's words. The title means "slaves of a free nation". It was released on 6 April 1990 and was a hit; it was the first time Rekha and the first time Rishi Kapoor had worked with Jackie Shroff, and Moviebuff calls it Pran's last role as a villain.
