Siva is an unemployed young man in Bangalore who falls for a girl the moment he sees her. When chance puts her in the car he is driving, and she asks to be taken to Mumbai, he agrees without a second thought. What should be a romantic road trip becomes a dangerous chase, because the girl, Charu, is running from her own relatives, and Siva has enemies of his own on the road. The film is built on the journey: highways, dhabas and changing landscapes, with Karthi and Tamannaah's easy chemistry at its centre. Paiyaa was a major hit and confirmed Karthi as a commercial star after Paruthiveeran. Yuvan Shankar Raja's soundtrack, including 'Thuli Thuli', 'Adada Mazhaida' and 'En Kadhal Solla', became one of the most popular Tamil albums of the year.
