Detective (1958)

Detective is a 1958 Hindi crime film from Shakti Samanta, made in the years when he was turning out brisk mysteries such as Howrah Bridge before moving on to big romantic hits like Aradhana. Pradeep Kumar plays the detective of the title, who takes on a case of crime and deception, and Mala Sinha is the young woman whose path keeps crossing his, putting love and suspicion side by side. The film mixes investigation, comedy and romance in the lively manner of 1950s Bombay thrillers. Its songs were composed by Mukul Roy, brother of singer Geeta Dutt, and the soundtrack is one of the reasons the film is still remembered by lovers of the period's music.
