Annie grows up in a loving Goan Christian family in which both her parents, Joseph and Flavy, are deaf and unable to speak. She is their ears and voice in the world, and in return they surround her with tenderness. Music becomes her own passion, and when she falls in love with Raj, a musician, she discovers a life her parents cannot share. As she steps into it, the bond with her father is strained by hurt and fear of losing her. Khamoshi: The Musical was Sanjay Leela Bhansali's first film as director, and it already shows his eye for colour and emotion, with a lovingly drawn Goa. Nana Patekar and Seema Biswas are deeply moving as the parents, and Jatin-Lalit's songs, including "Aaj main upar" and "Yeh dil sun raha hai", are much loved.
