Zindagi Zindagi is one of the few Hindi films made by Tapan Sinha, the Bengali director known for humane, socially minded storytelling. Sunil Dutt and Waheeda Rehman lead the cast, with Deb Mukherjee in a key supporting part, in a drama about a family whose lives are shaken by questions of class and conscience. Sinha's approach is quiet and observational rather than melodramatic, letting the characters' choices carry the story. The music is by S. D. Burman, who also lent his own distinctive voice to the title song, "Zindagi Ae Zindagi". A rarely seen early-1970s work worth seeking out for its director and its lead pair.
