12 O'Clock is a black-and-white crime thriller in which Guru Dutt plays Ajay Kumar, a lawyer drawn into a case that becomes personal when Bani, the woman he loves, played by Waheeda Rehman, is accused of murder. As Ajay digs into what really happened around the fateful hour of the title, he finds a web of family secrets and greed. The film was the first directed by Pramod Chakravorty, who later made hits such as Love in Tokyo, and it reunited the popular screen pair of Guru Dutt and Waheeda Rehman outside Guru Dutt's own banner. O. P. Nayyar's music, including the Geeta Dutt and Mohammed Rafi duet "Tum Jo Hue Mere Humsafar", is a major attraction.
