Gharana (1961)

Gharana is a 1961 family drama from S. S. Vasan's Gemini Studios, the Madras company behind Chandralekha, and a Hindi remake of the Telugu hit Shanthi Nivasam. It follows the brothers and wives of a big joint family whose peace is shaken by suspicion and petty rivalries, until the bonds of family win through. Raaj Kumar and Rajendra Kumar play brothers, with Asha Parekh in one of her early leading roles. The film was a major success, and Ravi's music, including 'Husn Wale Tera Jawab Nahin', sung by Mohammed Rafi, was a big hit. It set a pattern for the South-produced Hindi family dramas of the 1960s.
