Rohan leaves his mother in India to seek work in the United States. Without papers, he lives hand to mouth among fellow Indians, and falls for Pooja, a girl who treasures the values he is in danger of forgetting. Rohan is also drawn into the world of the wealthy Balraj Khanna, a successful businessman with a secret that is bound up with Rohan's own family. Between the lure of easy money and the pull of home, Rohan must decide what kind of man he wants to be. The only film directed by Rishi Kapoor, it was made by the family banner R. K. Films and shot largely in the United States. It marked a return to the big screen for Rajesh Khanna, and Nadeem–Shravan's soundtrack, including "Yehi Hai Pyar" and the title song, was popular.
