In the early 2000s, Jack Abramoff is one of the most powerful lobbyists in Washington, a fast-talking operator who buys influence with golf trips, restaurants and campaign money. With his partner Michael Scanlon, he collects huge fees from Native American tribes to protect their casinos, while secretly working against them, and dreams up ever bolder schemes, including the purchase of a fleet of Florida casino boats with a dangerously shady partner. Kevin Spacey plays Abramoff as a charming, deluded showman who believes his own speeches, and was nominated for a Golden Globe. Director George Hickenlooper died suddenly just before the film's release. It plays as a darkly comic satire of money and politics, based on real events.
