Set in the early 1990s, Andala Rakshasi ('beautiful demon') is a love triangle around Midhuna, a young woman loved by two very different men. Surya is a sensitive artist who has carried a deep, silent love for her, and Gautham is a well-off young man whose devotion is just as strong and who stands by her through a crisis. As the three lives become entangled, the film becomes a slow, poetic story about memory, obsession and what it means to let go. It was the directing debut of Hanu Raghavapudi, later known for Sita Ramam, and the screen debut of Lavanya Tripathi. Its period look and Radhan's melancholy songs gave it a loyal following after release.
