Aranmanai (2014)

A large family returns to its old village palace to settle the property, and strange events begin almost at once: a servant dies, lights flicker and members of the family behave as if possessed. When the brother of one of the women arrives to investigate, he pieces together the story of Selvi, a young woman connected to the house whose death has never been avenged. Director Sundar C., who also plays the investigating brother, mixes jump scares, broad comedy from Santhanam and Kovai Sarala, and glamorous songs into a crowd-pleasing horror comedy. It was a big hit and launched a franchise, followed by Aranmanai 2, 3 and 4. An Urdu dub was released as Haveli Ka Raaz.
