Arya is cheerful, impulsive and incapable of hiding his feelings. On his first day at college he falls for Geetha, who has just been forced to accept the advances of Ajay, the hot-tempered son of a local politician. Instead of backing off, Arya cheerfully announces his love and decides it does not matter whether she loves him back, a one-sided devotion that drives Ajay mad and slowly changes everyone around him. Arya was the debut of director Sukumar and the film that made Allu Arjun a star, with Devi Sri Prasad's chartbuster songs, among them Aa Ante Amalapuram, a huge part of its success. Its Malayalam dub made Allu Arjun popular in Kerala, and it was followed by the spiritual sequel Arya 2 (2009).
