Arya is a free-spirited student who proposes to Geetha on his first day of college, only to learn that Ajay, the hot-headed son of a politician, has already threatened her into a relationship. Arya does not give up: he declares his "one-sided love" openly and keeps cheerfully hovering around the couple, which slowly forces both Geetha and Ajay to think about what love means. Sukumar's first film turned the formula romance on its head with a quirky, talkative hero, and it made Allu Arjun a star. Devi Sri Prasad's soundtrack, including "Aa Ante Amalapuram", was a huge hit, and the film was remade in Tamil as Kutty. A spiritual sequel, Arya 2, followed in 2009.
