Anand Ashram is a 1977 family drama directed by Shakti Samanta, made simultaneously in Hindi and Bengali. Uttam Kumar, the great star of Bengali cinema, plays the son of a wealthy landowner, played by Ashok Kumar, who defies his father by marrying a girl from a humble background, played by Sharmila Tagore. The quarrel that follows splits the family and echoes into the next generation, with Rakesh Roshan in the cast. The story is an emotional melodrama of pride, sacrifice and reconciliation, in the style of Samanta's Bengali-Hindi bilinguals of the 1970s such as Amanush. Music was composed by Bengali singer-composer Shyamal Mitra.
