Charitra (1973)

Charitra ("character") is a 1973 Hindi drama directed by B. R. Ishara, known for his bold, low-budget films about relationships and social hypocrisy. It is remembered above all as the screen debut of Parveen Babi, who went on to become one of the defining stars of the 1970s, and for its unusual leading man, the Test cricketer Salim Durani, whose good looks made him a celebrity off the field. The story turns on questions of a woman's reputation and the judgments society passes on her. The film was not a success, but it launched Parveen Babi's career.
