Jhoothi (1985)

Rekha's heroine has a habit: whenever someone is in trouble, she makes up a story to fix things. Her kind intentions earn her a reputation as a liar, and as her small untruths begin to pile up and entangle her family, her romance and her neighbours, she finds it hard to make anyone believe her when she finally needs to tell the truth. Jhoothi (Liar) is a gentle middle-class comedy directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, master of the warm comedies Golmaal and Chupke Chupke. It is a rare comic role for Rekha, partnered by Raj Babbar, with Amol Palekar adding to the fun.
