In a quiet American town, the Fourth of July celebrations are interrupted when vast alien spacecraft appear and begin laying waste to cities across the country. As the nation's leaders, the President among them, struggle to respond, the town's fire chief, his brother and a few quick-thinking teenagers stumble on clues that the invaders have a weakness, and they race to act on it before it is too late. Independence Daysaster is a made-for-television science-fiction disaster film whose title plays on the blockbuster Independence Day. It offers the familiar ingredients of the genre, collapsing landmarks, family heroism and a race against time, on a modest scale.
