Lucky and Ritu are in love, but Ritu's father is a stern, principled man with very fixed ideas about the sort of son-in-law he will accept, and Lucky is not it. With the help of family and friends, the couple try one scheme after another to bring him round, and the confusion multiplies in the gentle, character-based style of comedy that Hrishikesh Mukherjee had perfected in films like Chupke Chupke and Gol Maal. The title is from an old saying: tell a lie and the crow will bite you. Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla make a lively pair, and Amrish Puri and Anupam Kher add seasoned support. It was the last film Hrishikesh Mukherjee directed, a warm farewell from one of the most loved filmmakers of middle-class Hindi cinema.
