Balu is a bright, light-hearted student in an intermediate college in Andhra, whose father has quietly sacrificed a great deal to give him a good future. In class he falls for Swapna, the strict, studious daughter of another family, and the romance of first love fills his days with friends, pranks and stolen moments. But the pressures of exams, family expectations and their own inexperience soon begin to weigh on the young couple. Kotha Bangaru Lokam ("a new golden world") was the directorial debut of Srikanth Addala and a surprise blockbuster in Telugu in 2008, praised for its fresh campus atmosphere, Prakash Raj's moving performance as the father and Mickey J. Meyer's melodious soundtrack. It made a star of Varun Sandesh.
