Lakshmi Narasimha is a tough police officer with his own style of justice: he takes small bribes, but uses them to keep order, and he will not tolerate real crime. Transferred to a town where a ruthless politician-gangster controls everything, including the police, he starts quietly and then declares war, with the confrontation growing more personal as the villain strikes at the people he cares about. Asin plays the young woman he falls for. The film is a remake of the Tamil hit Saamy (2003) starring Vikram, reworked to suit Balakrishna's fiery screen image, and was a box-office success on its Sankranti 2004 release. Mani Sharma composed the music.
