Rakhi (1962)

A brother and his younger sister have been everything to each other since childhood, and he works tirelessly to give her the life he never had. As they grow up, marriage brings new people into their lives, and an outsider with his own motives drives a wedge between the brother and sister, leading to misunderstandings and years of separation. Rakhi is the Hindi remake, by the same director A. Bhimsingh, of the Tamil classic Pasamalar (1961) with Sivaji Ganesan and Savitri, one of the most celebrated brother-sister films of Indian cinema. Ashok Kumar won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance, and the title song, sung by Mohammed Rafi to music by Ravi, has remained a Raksha Bandhan favourite for decades.
