Raj Singh Puri has raised his three daughters alone since his wife's death, and the family's warmth is the centre of his life. His youngest, the spirited Isha, has grown up close to Ronit, son of Raj's wealthy old friend L. K. Malhotra, and the two gradually fall in love. But Malhotra has ambitions of his own for his son, and the clash between family pride, money and feeling puts the friendship and the romance under strain, while the elder daughters' marriages bring troubles of their own. Yaadein ("memories") was Subhash Ghai's big family romance of 2001, coming soon after Hrithik Roshan's sensational debut and pairing him with Kareena Kapoor early in both careers. It was a commercial disappointment, but Anu Malik's songs, including the title track, remained popular, and Jackie Shroff's gentle father figure is a highlight.
