Gulzar directed Kinara, Meera and Angoor in six years - a romance built on a concealment, the life of a sixteenth-century devotional poet, and a Shakespeare farce. Very few directors have that range and almost none of them also wrote the songs.
The first film Gulzar directed - a deaf and mute couple, almost nothing spoken, from a writer whose reputation is entirely words.
