Rohit, a straightforward young man, meets the free-spirited Rashmi on a train journey and falls in love. They marry, but their ideas about life are very different: she wants a career and independence, and when she makes a decision about their future without him, the rift between them grows into a crisis, complicated by crime and a murder in which Rohit gets entangled. Ajanabee, meaning stranger, reunited Rajesh Khanna with director Shakti Samanta. R. D. Burman's soundtrack is the big attraction, with Ek Ajnabee Haseena Se, Hum Dono Do Premi and Bheegi Bheegi Raaton Mein, all sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar.
