Insaniyat (1955)

In a kingdom of old, a cruel warlord named Zangoora rules through fear and plunder. When his men are ordered to terrorise a peaceful village, one of his soldiers can no longer stomach the cruelty and rebels, finding shelter and love among the villagers. A fellow soldier, once his rival, remains in the tyrant's service for a time, and the two men are set on a collision course before they recognise who the true enemy is. Insaniyat, meaning humanity, was a grand costume adventure from S. S. Vasan's Gemini Studios in Madras, with battle scenes, palace intrigue and a famously popular chimpanzee called Zippy providing comedy. It is remembered above all as the one time the great rivals Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand shared the screen as co-stars.
