At Aligarh Muslim University, the young poet Anwar collides with a burqa-clad student; her books fall, and in that moment he sees only her eyes. He falls helplessly in love, and back home in Lucknow he begins a search for the mysterious girl, not knowing that she is Husna, sister of a proud nawab, and that their families' worlds stand between them. Mere Mehboob is one of the most celebrated Muslim social romances of Hindi cinema, full of Lucknow's grace and etiquette. It was a major hit, and Sadhana's beauty in the film became iconic. Naushad's music and Shakeel Badayuni's lyrics are its glory: Mohammed Rafi's title song Mere Mehboob Tujhe Meri Mohabbat Ki Qasam remains one of the most loved romantic songs ever recorded.
