Babul (1950)

Ashok comes to a village as its new postmaster and moves into the house of the old postmaster, whose daughter Bela, playful and innocent, quickly falls in love with him. Ashok, however, is drawn to Usha, the refined daughter of a local landlord, and Bela's heartbreak leads the story towards tragedy. Babul (1950), whose title is the word a bride uses for her father's home, was a hit and one of several pairings of Dilip Kumar and Nargis. Naushad's songs, including Milte Hi Aankhen Dil Hua Deewana Kisi Ka, sung by Talat Mahmood and Shamshad Begum, were very popular.
