Description

At the Meena Bazaar, Prince Khurram sees Arjumand Bano, and it is love at first sight. Empress Noor Jahan, who wants Khurram to marry her own daughter, Ladli Bano, schemes against them: she holds Arjumand captive, sends Khurram off to war, from which he returns triumphant as "Shah Jahan", and has her stepson attempt to murder him. Emperor Jahangir learns of Arjumand's devotion and blesses the marriage. When Jahangir falls ill, Noor Jahan seizes power and declares Khurram an intruder. Pradeep Kumar plays Khurram and Bina Rai Arjumand, the pair reunited after Anarkali (1953), with Veena, Jeevan, Rehman, Helen and Murad in the cast. M. Sadiq directed this Mughal epic in Eastmancolor, from a story and screenplay by Qamar Jalalabadi, and Roshan composed the songs to Sahir Ludhianvi's words. It won two Filmfare Awards in 1964, for Roshan's music and Sahir's lyrics, and Lata Mangeshkar was nominated for 'Jo Wada Kiya Wo'. M. Sadiq later moved to Pakistan, where he co-directed Baharo Phool Barsao (1972).

What we found
We corrected this This film credited Rahman, who is an Indian film actor born 1967, four years after this film. The credit has been removed rather than reassigned. Wikidata's own entity description, against the film's year — Q278006: an Indian film actor born 1967, four years after this film
How we knowThe entity credited here is Rahman (Q278006), described by Wikidata as "an Indian film actor born 1967, four years after this film". The Rahman who acted in Hindi films of the 1950s and 1960s is a different man; the entity index holds no second actor of that name. Found by asking which people in this catalogue are credited on a work made before the year their own page says they were born - an arithmetic test that needs no outside source and that caught, the same day, a 1931 film carrying a 2025 film's cast and a 1983 special carrying the cast of a series revived in 2005. The right person is NOT guessed at: The Rahman who acted in Hindi films of the 1950s and 1960s is a different man; the entity index holds no second actor of that name. Settling it means reading the print's own credit roll.
Letterboxd dates Taj Mahal to 31 January 1963, but the film's censor certificate is dated 27 March 1963.
How we knowA film cannot be released before it is certified, so 31 January is unlikely and the film was probably released after 27 March 1963. The certificate gives category U, number 39071, 4424 metres in 16 reels. No source consulted gives the actual release date, so this record claims only the year.
