Description

A boy and a girl from two Pathan families at war with each other fall in love. They run; a man called Shah Sahab takes them in; both families come after them, and the film is what happens to the people who sheltered them. Saawan Kumar Tak wrote it, produced it and directed it - the print says all three on one card - and he wrote most of the songs as well. Ayub Khan is Salim Khan and Milind Gunaji is Dilawar Khan, with Saadhika Randhawa in the title role. Pran, Shashikala, Kiran Kumar and Mukesh Khanna are around them. It was shot in the desert and the credit roll proves it: in among the dressers and the make-up men there is a card for the camel trainer, Bawal Khan Baloche. Neeta Lulla did the costumes. Aadesh Shrivastava wrote the music. Most of the lyrics are Saawan Kumar's own, but two of the nine songs are by Majrooh Sultanpuri, whom the film's own lyric card does not mention at all. Phul Mai Bheju is Lata Mangeshkar with Kumar Sanu; the title song comes in two parts, shared between Udit Narayan, Asha Bhosle and Amit Kumar; and Mohabbat Aisi Mehndi Hai is Richa Sharma with Vipin Sachdeva. The certificate is dated 30 January 1997, which is also the day it went out. About sixteen minutes of what the Board timed is missing from this copy.
