Description

Mahesh and Meena are college sweethearts, but when Mahesh's father arranges his marriage to another woman, Meena is left alone and pregnant. Unable to face society, she abandons her newborn son in a forest. The baby is found by Abdul Rasheed, a poor and kind-hearted Muslim man, who raises him with love despite the taunts of his neighbours, and years later the boy's path crosses with that of the man who is unknowingly his father. Dhool Ka Phool was the first film directed by Yash Chopra, produced by his elder brother B. R. Chopra, and it boldly took up the subject of children born out of wedlock. Mohammed Rafi's "Tu Hindu Banega Na Musalmaan Banega", sung by Manmohan Krishna's character, became an enduring anthem of humanism, and the film was a major hit of 1959.
