Description

This is Ashok Kumar's last film. He was eighty-six, and he takes the first starring card, ahead of Raakhee, Sharad Kapoor and Rohit Roy. The story is an astrologer's prophecy worked out in a courtroom. The family astrologer tells Prem Kapoor that if he marries Pooja, he will die young. She marries Pratap instead; Pratap is killed in an accident on their honeymoon in Switzerland, which is where much of the film was shot; Pooja is later arrested for two more deaths, and Prem, by then an advocate, has to work out whether there was anything in the prediction at all. Rohit Roy is Prem, Suman Ranganathan is Pooja, and Raakhee plays Ranima, Mrs. Burman. It was shot twice over, in Hindi and simultaneously in Bengali as Achena Atithi. The music is Anu Malik's to Anand Bakshi's words, and the title song, sung by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik, was the hit. The print is precise about something every listing of the film gets wrong. Shakti Samanta's card says PRESENTS, over the banner he named after his own Aradhana; the last card of the roll says PRODUCED & DIRECTED BY ASHIM S. SAMANTA. The father presented it; the son produced and directed it.

What we found
We corrected this Wikidata credits Shakti Samanta as the producer. The print credits him as the presenter, and names his son Ashim as producer and director both. the print's own credit roll, against Wikidata — Q4766053 P162 vs the print's final card
How we knowQ4766053 carries P162 (producer) = Shakti Samanta (Q1397481) and P57 (director) = Ashim Samanta (Q4805087). The print distinguishes them. Its opening card reads SHAKTI SAMANTA PRESENTS, over snow peaks, followed by the banner ARADHANA FILM'S - named after his own 1969 picture. The last card of the credit roll reads PRODUCED & DIRECTED BY ASHIM S. SAMANTA, on one card. Presenting and producing are different credits and the film states both; the database flattens them into one and attributes it to the wrong man.
