Description

The Punjabi folk tragedy of Heer and Ranjha, in which a landowner's son takes work as a herdsman to be near the girl he loves and her family marries her elsewhere anyway. The extraordinary thing about this version is formal: **every line of dialogue in the film is in rhymed verse**, written by Kaifi Azmi, so the whole picture is sung or spoken as poetry with no ordinary speech in it at all. Chetan Anand attempted it once and nobody has attempted it since.
