Description

Ram Sinha meets a girl named Chitralekha on a train journey, and she suddenly vanishes from the moving train. He keeps meeting her in circumstances that convince him she is a ghost, and then finds that his mother has fixed his marriage to the same girl. He goes through with the ceremony but refuses to accept her as his wife, and her "spirit" seems to lead him into life-threatening situations. The "ghost" is a coached accomplice wearing a mask of the bride's face, used to turn Ram against his own wife. Shatrughan Sinha plays the husband, who is bewildered and vulnerable here, a long way from his usual "Khamosh!" mode, with Neetu Singh as the bride. Asrani plays the friend who plots the hero's death, and Ranjeet, usually the villain, plays a non-villain role. Moushumi Chatterjee has a cameo and Vinod Mehra a special appearance. Saawan Kumar Tak did nearly everything himself: he produced and directed it, wrote the story, screenplay, dialogue and every lyric, and his wife, Usha Khanna, composed the music. Asha Bhosle's haunting 'Aa Devta Tu Apni Pujarin Ke Paas Aa' is one of the rare songs of the film to survive.
