Description

Kishan, the son of a shehnai master, grows up loving Gopi, his childhood companion, and dreams of making music his life. But circumstances and the will of their elders pull the two apart, and both are drawn into marriages and obligations they did not choose, leaving Kishan to find his way through sorrow and his art. Goonj Uthi Shehnai is one of the best-loved musicals of late-1950s Hindi cinema and an early success for Rajendra Kumar. Vasant Desai's score is the heart of the film, and the shehnai heard on screen was played by the great Ustad Bismillah Khan. Songs such as Tere Sur Aur Mere Geet and Jeevan Mein Piya Tera Saath Rahe remain classics.
