Description

Hari is a deaf and mute newspaper vendor who meets Aarti, who is also deaf and mute, at a grocer's shop, and later rescues her from street harassers. They fall in love and marry with her mother's blessing. Aarti's unscrupulous brother Kanu exploits their deafness, and his theft one stormy night indirectly costs them their first child. With help from a blind neighbour who becomes their ears and voice, they raise a second son, while Hari works his way up from shoeshine boy to an officer's job in a printing press. Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Bhaduri play the couple in a film told almost without dialogue, Gulzar's second as director. Moushumi Chatterjee was first cast as Aarti but quit after three days over Gulzar's demands, and Jaya Bhaduri replaced her. Sanjeev Kumar reportedly held a 25 per cent share of the profits, and had a pact with Gulzar to make one offbeat film a year. Dilip Kumar makes a guest appearance as himself. The film won the National Awards for Best Screenplay (Gulzar) and Best Actor (Sanjeev Kumar) in 1973, and was remade in Tamil as Uyarnthavargal (1977) with Kamal Haasan and Sujatha.

Wikipedia
Sources disagree on when Koshish was released: 13 October 1972 or 27 November 1972.
How we knowWikipedia gives 13 October and IMDb gives 27 November. The film's censor certificate is dated 27 November 1972, the same day as IMDb's release date, which makes a release on 13 October unlikely, since a film cannot be shown before it is passed. The later date is the better supported.

What we found
Cinemaazi links the 'Rehana' of Koshish to the 1940s star known as the Jhatka Queen, who left India for Pakistan in the 1950s.
How we knowThat Rehana (born 7 March 1931, died 23 April 2013 in Pakistan) could not have acted in 1972, and her own Cinemaazi biography says she migrated in the 1950s, yet the same page lists Koshish (1972) and Kaarnaama (1990). Cinemaazi appears to have merged several actresses called Rehana into one record. Bollywood Hungama and TheTVDB do the same with other one-word screen names, so a database link is not proof of identity for such a credit. The Koshish Rehana, who plays Bulbul, is unidentified.
