Description

Ram Prasad works for Bhavani Shankar, a hot-headed, miserly and deeply superstitious widower who does whatever his astrologer says. Ram loves Kusum but says he is too poor to marry her. When Kusum and her father are evicted from their village home, Ram quietly lets them stay in Bhavani Shankar's ancestral house, which has just been won back after a 53-year legal battle. The estate manager falls for Kusum, then Bhavani's ruffian brother Babua, and finally Bhavani himself - who is convinced, because his astrologer told him to marry a woman whose name begins with "K". Hrishikesh Mukherjee reunited Utpal Dutt (Bhavani Shankar) and Amol Palekar (Ram Prasad) after the success of Gol Maal, on a similar confusion plot that swaps Gol Maal's moustache obsession for astrology. Swaroop Sampat is Kusum, and Shatrughan Sinha plays Babua with a surprisingly good comic touch. R. D. Burman wrote the music and Gulzar the words. It is the second of Mukherjee's Palekar-Dutt comedies, between Gol Maal (1979) and Rang Birangi (1983), and the last film on which Gulzar and Hrishikesh Mukherjee worked together. Amitabh Bachchan appears in one scene.
