Description

This is where Bhaiyya Mere Rakhi Ke Bandhan Ko Nibhana comes from - the song India has played on Raksha Bandhan every year since 1959. Rajendra keeps his younger brother and sister. The brother neglects his studies over a girl; the sister goes blind. When the brother marries, his wife turns on the blind sister-in-law until she ends up on the street, and by then Rajendra has lost his job too. Balraj Sahni is Rajendra, Nanda is Meena and Rehman is Shekhar, with Shyama as Shobha, and Mehmood and Shubha Khote. The part made Nanda a star. L. V. Prasad directed and produced, remaking the Tamil En Thangai of 1952, from a screenplay by Inder Raj Anand. Shankar-Jaikishan wrote the music to words by Shailendra and Hasrat Jaipuri - nine songs. Lata Mangeshkar sings Bhaiyya Mere. Jaoon Kahan Bata Ae Dil is Mukesh, Main Rickshawala is Mohammed Rafi, and Kali Anar Ki is Asha Bhosle with Manna Dey.
