Description

A Hrishikesh Mukherjee comedy with a murder in it. Two young men who cannot make a living find an old man who claims to be, variously, a missing person and a murderer, and the film keeps you guessing which. Om Prakash plays him and walks away with the picture. Navin Nischol and Deven Verma are the two. Archana, in only her second film, plays the girl; Aruna Irani is in it as something other than a vamp for once, and Lalita Pawar is in it being Lalita Pawar. Jaywant Pathare photographed it for L. B. Lachman. The music is R. D. Burman's, and Raat Kali Ek Khwab Mein Aayi - Kishore Kumar, picturised on Navin Nischol - is one of the half-dozen songs people reach for when they argue about what Burman and Kishore could do together. Jab Chhaye Mera Jadoo is the other hit.
