Description

Hum Hindustani (We Indians) is a 1960 Hindi social drama directed by Ram Mukherjee, made in the hopeful years after Independence. Through the lives and romances of a group of young people, the film sets the idealism of a new generation against the snobbery and old-fashioned attitudes of their elders, and asks what it means to be a modern Indian. Sunil Dutt and Joy Mukherjee lead, with a young Asha Parekh. The film is best remembered for Mukesh's song Chhodo Kal Ki Baatein, a stirring anthem of building a new India, composed by Usha Khanna early in her career.
